Where he started
Ryan grew up in Brisbane and played at St Joseph's Nudgee College, one of the strongest school programs in Queensland, where his team won the Greater Private Schools championship without losing a game. Like many Australian players, he did not go straight to a four-year university. He chose a junior college: Feather River College, in Quincy, California, in the Sierra Nevada.
The JUCO years
It worked the way junior college is supposed to work. As a freshman in 2023 he played 19 games with 15 starts and scored 6 goals. In 2024 he started every match and scored 19 goals with 7 assists in 23 games, five of them game-winners. The Golden Valley Conference named him its Offensive Player of the Year, and he made the NorCal First Team All-Region.
Two seasons, 25 goals and 10 assists. Numbers a Division I coach can evaluate without guessing.

The hard part
In 2025 he made the jump to NCAA Division I at Gardner-Webb, a team that went 13-3-2 and climbed to No. 7 in the national rankings. Ryan did not play a match that season. Then, on November 25, the head coach stepped down. For a forward with a record like his, a year without minutes is the real risk: the eligibility clock keeps running, and a coach who has not seen you play has nothing recent to go on.
Where GSX fits
Pablo González, from the GSX founding team and a former NCAA Division I player, led his case from start to finish. In December 2025, within weeks of the coaching change, Ryan signed with Mercyhurst University, NCAA Division I. On Mercyhurst's roster he is a redshirt junior: his year at Gardner-Webb did not cost him a season.
A JUCO record is a strong case, but only if the right coaches see it, in the right format, at the right time. That is GSX's work: a clear profile and video, direct contact with coaches whose rosters need that profile, and a careful look at eligibility before anyone signs.
Pablo knows this route first-hand: he played NCAA Division I himself and now plays professionally in New Zealand.
Where he is today

Ryan wears number 9 for the Mercyhurst Lakers in Erie, Pennsylvania, and studies business and sports management. In his first season he has played 5 games, with 1 start and 185 minutes. It is the start of a new chapter in Division I, with seasons still ahead of him.
What his path teaches
- Junior college is a step, not a stop. Two seasons of real minutes and individual honors built the case for Division I.
- Numbers travel. 25 goals in 42 games is something a coach can read in ten seconds.
- A year without minutes is not the end, as long as you protect your eligibility and move with a plan.
- Timing matters. After a coaching change, the players who move early have more doors open.
